Narrative:
My husband, Rick, was admitted to the hospital Sunday evening May 6 for attempted suicide. He woke before ICU could get Crisis Management there. He intended to leave and they contacted the police. 5 officers showed up!
He was depressed, still had xanax in his system, 55 yrs old,, 5"10 and 165 lbs. Has not be in trouble before, had not attempted suicide before, is a respected business owner in the next town.
He was as weak as a kitten, did not in any way touch any of the offices- though one kept insisting that Rick stop "poking" him. He asked to be left alone and walked out to the parking lot. They tackled him from behind, slammed him to the ground and 2 officers knelt on his back-hard- and pushed his head into the pavement and cuffed him.
They then dragged him, by the arms to the curb and told him not to move. After a while he asked if he could move his butt as it had gone numb. They told him no and an officer went behind him and stomped on his cuffed hand.
Now when I called the police dept before or while this was going on I was told that if he was violent and/or resisted arrest, he would be arrested and brought to jail. That did not happen, yet he was assaulted- why? If the case was resisting he would be in jail-yes? And he is not.
Most of the AG police dept have been rude and have an attitude in general.
I will file all the complaints to whoever I can and pursue this as far as I can. I am not really expecting to get anywhere and I don't really care about any compensation, though I would love to get them where THEY can feel it! This is just not right! No way should this have happened and I know this happens ALL the time and it makes me sick!
Rick is writting a statement of his own and I am sure it will be more accurate then this one is. I also have doctors reports, pictures and x-rays.
Thanks so much!
